for centerpeices i would go with mileshake glasses with fish in them a dj would help with the music or rent a juke box
Give your answer to this question below!
Records or 45s, Varsity jackets, or at least just the letter, saddle shoes, Coke bottles…
For the centerpieces, I would make them all a little different – start out with a base, like a round hurricane glass, and fill it up with beads (maybe black) and water and put floating candles on top. The around it, put a 45, and a varsity letter with some sort of confetti sprinkled around. On another table put a coke bottle and a saddle shoes. Make them interesting and creative. Use post cards of Lucy, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis as the place cards or table names.
I would hang 45s from the walls or ceiling to create a nice atmosphere. See if you can rent a black and white checkered dance floor.
Do you know what you are going to do for your centerpieces? I think it would be cool to incorporate albums/records or some classic cars from the 50′s & 60′s. Here is a cute idea for a centerpiece. Maybe you could place vases of flowers on the table, then place old records around them:

Do you have your bridesmaid gowns picked out yet? Maybe you could get dresses similar to the one that Olivia Newton John wore in Grease when they all went to the dance…maybe something like this:

Do you have any ideas for your bridal gown? Here are some bridal gown patterns from the 1950′s so you can kind of get a sense of what the style was. The longer sleeves were definitely in style…

Most gowns today are strapless – but there are some out there that have sleeves. My gown had 3/4 lace sleeves made by Pronovias. Pronovias has some gorgeous dresses – but they are a bit pricey. Here are some cute dresses you might want to look into:

For the music I would try looking for some compilation albums from the 1950′s and 1960′s. Here are a few you can look at:

For the rest of the decor you can try looking at party supplies. They usually have 1950′s and 1960′s theme decorations. You don’t have to use those decorations, since they aren’t usually made for weddings, but they can give you a lot of good ideas.
Waw, well on this site I have seen a couple of individuals going for 50′s rock n roll theme which is class
heres a link to popular 50′s hits hope you know some

I was growing up in the late 50′s and early 60′s Graduated in 1960
Weddings were much lower key than they are today. Dessert receptions were the norm. (punch and cake, and occasionally finger foods were served, usually buffet style) Rarely was there a sit down dinner, unless you were wealthy. They were religion based. Church attendance was the norm and the only acceptable Wed night date. We were not allowed to go out during the school week.
I assume you just want to use items from that era. You might consider old 78 or 33 records for charger plates. Fuzzy fur dice for centerpieces. Place cards with poodles/records or T birds on them on them, if you can find them. Small silk scarves tied around your napkins instead of napkin rings.Bobby socks, saddle ox(with a small candle vases in them would make a great idea too. For larger tables), white sports coats, pink carnations, petticoats,(if anyone sews in the family these would be awesome as table skirts.) or felt with poodles on them would work. Pics of Movie stars of the day, Photoplay magazines, scattered about if available for mood decor. Pics of E Presley, Bill Haley, The Platterers, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Big Bopper, Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, The Birds, Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, Little Richard, provided just some of the sounds of the day to name just a few. Hope these ideas help some Have fun
PS the dress is absolutely appropriate.
I like a diner theme for the reception! Think how much fun you could have with the checkered tablecloths! These would be cute favors for that theme: http://www.spectacularfavors.com/storename/spectacularfavorscom/dept/255965/ItemDetail-10353317.aspx
Congratulations – sounds like fun!
