I didn’t have one, but if my wife and I could do our wedding over, we would probably do a destination wedding. We have friends who did and it saved them a lot of money because basically, only their family and closest friends made the trip so they saved on meal costs, etc. due to the smaller number of attendees. They were also able to start their honeymoon right away since they were already where they wanted to go!

More than likey it would be a lot less expensive because most places offer wedding packages that are meant to save you money.
Yes, I did and it was, mostly because it was smaller. We had 28 people at our wedding instead of hundreds of people. However, we did have the additional expense of plane fare and hotel rooms. Also, we invited everyone to a “rehearsal dinner” (no rehearsal, but the night before the wedding) since everyone was in from out of town.
What was cheaper was that my husband and I each had less formal attire than a traditional wedding, we kept the flowers and centerpieces simple (and actually the flowers were a gift from a guest), and there were a small number of people invited.
I will get married in Colombia (South America) and I have not idea about other places but I will get my dream wedding reception with 75 people for 3000 USD. I think is a very good price because includes: cake, decorations (the most beatiful flowers you can imagine), food and the place. I know that I cannot find anything like that in the US.
